Let's beat cancer sooner

The Palace of Westminster

Our Ambassadors descended on Westminster

On Wednesday, Cancer Research UK descended on Parliament for our biggest ever day of action in Westminster. It was the perfect opportunity to talk to MPs and Lords about some of our priorities for beating cancer, such as early diagnosis and access to the best treatments. And we were especially keen to talk to them about our latest campaign for the plain packaging of tobacco products – ‘The answer is plain’.

It was a busy day, with around 70 of our most dedicated supporters, our Cancer Campaigns Ambassadors, travelling down to Westminster from all over the UK to meet their MP.

But we also put our staff to work meeting some top politicians throughout the day. For the first time, our Cancer Awareness Roadshow made a special stop in Westminster. Our nurses received visits from around 60 MPs and talked to them about their work in some of the UK’s most deprived communities, helping people spot cancer early.

Of course, not everyone who wanted to be there could make it, but there was a lot of buzz on social media throughout the day. To give you a flavour of what went on, we’ve pulled together some of the top tweets and photos of the day below.
