The CancerHelp UK clinical trials database

The CancerHelp UK clinical trials database is a unique resource for patients

Happy birthday to our CancerHelp UK clinical trials database, which recently reached the grand old age of ten. Not only that, but the pioneering and unique database has just listed its thousandth trial.

Over the past decade, the CancerHelp UK team have been working hard to provide information about clinical trials that are currently recruiting people with cancer in the UK, building a vital resource for patients.

The importance of the database can’t be underestimated, as it helps people to find out what trials might be suitable for them to enter and provides clear and understandable information about the treatments and possible side effects. And in recent years the team have expanded the database to include the results of trials that have finished and published their data, so people can see how clinical research is shaping medical practice.

It’s all part of Cancer Research UK’s mission to provide and support people – and their families, friends and carers – with the information they need when faced with a diagnosis of cancer.

As well as CancerHelp UK, people affected by cancer can also speak to one of Cancer Research UK’s information nurses by calling freephone 0808 800 4040 (9am-5pm, Monday to Friday). Or visit our online forum, CancerChat, to talk to other people affected by the disease.

I think that this is a fabulous initiative – what I am wondering is if CancerHelp UK is collecting any data on site traffic or doing some sort of follow up to determine if, by providing this information, more cancer patients are enrolling in trials.
